Ferrous Scrap Processing
Guernsey Recycling processes over 6,000 tonnes of Ferrous scrap per annum.
The well equipped depot is capable of receiving and recycling all the arisings of ferrous scrap which originate in the Islands, from sources as diverse as individual households with one washing machine to entire factories being demolished.
Working from an impervious, intercepted concrete reception area, all ferrous waste metal deliveries are inspected and graded on arrival.
Old cars, vans and lorries are de-polluted of oil and petrol on a special de-contamination rig located at the entrance to the depot.
Scrap is recycled through a series of processing plants to produce 5 different grades of finished secondary ferrous raw material.
These grades of recycled metal are loaded into dedicated chartered ships for export directly to steel mills in Europe for re-melting into new steel products.
Over 75% of all input material into the Guernsey Recycling depot is recycled into secondary raw material product.

Non Ferrous Scrap Processing
Guernsey Recycling buys and sells over 1,000 tonnes per year of all grades of non-ferrous scrap.

The dedicated non-ferrous metal building houses a range of specialised equipment enabling Guernsey Recycling to handle all non-ferrous metal deliveries from domestic wiring, taps and water cylinders through to large industrial transformers and heavy underground cable.
Equipped with the very latest electronic weighing equipment, all deliveries of metal are accurately weighed, sorted, cleaned and baled into internationally designated grades.
The high powered eddy current magnet attached to the car fragmentiser helps Guernsey Recycling to recover the mixed non-ferrous metal attached to the old vehicles.
This material is then sent to a sophisticated heavy media separation plant, where all the non-ferrous metal is sorted and recovered.
Containers are regularly exported to Europe with over 15 different grades of recycled secondary raw material.
